Seminar 1 – Endowment investment and the current financial environment
The seminar will see each panel member discuss the broad issues surrounding the investment of long-term endowment funds. These issues will be discussed in the context of the current market environment. There will also be an extended opportunity for Q&A so that participants can ask investment questions of the panel.

Jon Buckeridge
Senior Consultant, Atchison Consultants
Jon has worked in the financial services industry since 1969, with experience in life insurance, superannuation and investment management. Prior to joining Atchison Consultants in July 2007, Jon provided management and governance advice to a number of community and business organisations.
Stephen Hiscock
Managing Director, SG Hiscock & Company Limited
Stephen Hiscock is the Chief Investment Officer of SG Hiscock & Company, a boutique fund manager with $2.3b invested in Australian Equities and Listed Property Securities. He has over 20 years experience in investment markets.
Shaun Manuell
Head of Private Clients, Equity Trustees Limited
Shaun Manuell is the Head of Private Clients at Equity Trustees and one of the portfolio managers of the EQT Flagship Fund. The Private Client department manages $1.3b on behalf of its clients, including $400m managed on behalf of perpetual charitable trusts. Before working at Equity Trustees Shaun worked in Institutional Stockbroking in the UK for six years.
Seminar 2 – Current legal and taxation issues for charitable organisations
This seminar will discuss challenges to charitable gifts made in Wills (from a charitable perspective) and current taxation issues. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A so that participants can ask legal and taxation questions of the panel.

Dr Ian Hardingham is a barrister who has been a member of the Victorian Bar Roll since 1986 and was appointed QC in November 1997. Ian’s areas of practice include commercial law, corporations and securities, Equity and Trusts, Probate, Wills, property law and superannuation
John Emerson AM
Partner, Freehills, Solicitors
John Emerson is recognised Australia-wide as an expert in the tax laws applicable to charities, and heads Freehills’ charity law practice. He joined the firm in 1971 and was admitted to partnership in 1976.
Lachlan Wraith
Senior Manager, Estates and Trusts, Equity Trustees Limited
Lachlan is the Senior Manager for Estates and Trusts at Equity Trustees. He is responsible for handling the legal issues which arise from administering trusts and estates. Prior to joining Equity Trustees, Lachlan was a barrister for 11 years in Melbourne and worked as a solicitor in rural Victoria
